Maca (pronounced as "Maka") is a strengthening and energizing plant that grows in South America, in the Andes. Its roots are ground after drying and for consumption. The plant was already used by the Incas 2000 years ago for healing and nutritional purposes.
It has been successfully used in female and male infertility problems, impotence, erectile dysfunction. Regulating the ovaries, it helps with menstrual disorders and with the problems that occur during menopause. It is also often mentioned as a natural hormone regulator, thanks to its adaptogenic properties.
Adaptogenic medicinal plants are those plants that are able to exert their beneficial effects in such a way that they adapt to the continuous changes in the body.
These plants balance the functioning of the endocrine glands and immune system so that they slow down over-functioning organs and speed up under-functioning organs, without affecting normally-functioning organs, so they only work when and where they're needed.
